Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (It is nothing but a revelation that is revealed)
We begin by explaining where we left off in Surat al-Najm, from the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He: [al-Najm:4-5] meaning: The great Qur'an is nothing but a revelation that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, reveals to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and that is through the trusted Jibril,Who Allah the Exalted described in this verse by His saying: [al-Najm:5-6] (of great strength) meaning: He is strong,And al-mirrah: of good form, so he possesses strength and possesses beauty and goodness.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw him in the form in which he was created, having six hundred wings that filled the horizon, and he is the one who brought down this Qur'an, and he is the trusted one, and he is strong until he delivered it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), as Allah the Exalted said: [al-Shu'ara:193-195] .
And his statement: (So he settled) meaning: So he acted, or so he completed; because istiwaa' in the Arabic language is sometimes mentioned absolutely without being restricted, in which case its meaning is: perfection,And among His saying, the Exalted: [al-Qasas:14] meaning: He completed.
And sometimes it is restricted with (on) in which case its meaning is: elevation,As in the saying of Allah the Exalted: [al-Zukhruf:12-13] ,So he said: ،And he said:[Az-Zukhruf 43:13] meaning: You are elevated above it.
And from that is His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He, in describing Himself: [Ta-Ha:5] meaning: He, Mighty and Majestic, elevated above it, and elevation is specific to the Throne, and this is not the absolute elevation above all created things.
And sometimes it is transitive with (to) it is said: He settled to such a thing, and it is interpreted as intention and completion,And among His saying, the Exalted: [Fussilat:11] .
And sometimes it is restricted with the waw, in which case its meaning is: equality,Like their saying: the water and the wood became equal,Meaning: he made them equal,So His saying here: so istawaa' here may mean: He settled, meaning: He elevated; because Jibril descends from the sky to deliver the revelation to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), then he ascends to the sky,And its meaning may be: he completed and is complete in strength, complete in form, complete in every aspect befitting created things.
[al-Najm:7] meaning: Jibril (peace be upon him) (at the highest horizon) meaning: the highest; and it is the horizon of the sky.
We begin by explaining where we left off in Surat al-Najm, from the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
(4) It is not but a revelation revealed, (5) Taught to him by one intense in strength -
Of great strength. Possessor of good form, so he settled
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw him in the form in which he was created, having six hundred wings that filled the horizon, and he is the one who brought down this Qur'an, and he is the trusted one, and he is strong until he delivered it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), as Allah the Exalted said:
(193) The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down (194) Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners - (195) In a clear Arabic language.
And his statement: (So he settled) meaning: So he acted, or so he completed; because istiwaa' in the Arabic language is sometimes mentioned absolutely without being restricted, in which case its meaning is: perfection,And among His saying, the Exalted:
And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and knowledge
And sometimes it is restricted with (on) in which case its meaning is: elevation,As in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount. (13) That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them
So that you may be carried on their backs.
لِتَسْتَوُوا عَلَى ظُهُورِهِwhen you have settled upon them
And from that is His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He, in describing Himself:
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.
And sometimes it is transitive with (to) it is said: He settled to such a thing, and it is interpreted as intention and completion,And among His saying, the Exalted:
Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke
And sometimes it is restricted with the waw, in which case its meaning is: equality,Like their saying: the water and the wood became equal,Meaning: he made them equal,So His saying here: so istawaa' here may mean: He settled, meaning: He elevated; because Jibril descends from the sky to deliver the revelation to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), then he ascends to the sky,And its meaning may be: he completed and is complete in strength, complete in form, complete in every aspect befitting created things.
