The Ruling on a Muslim Cursing Another Muslim
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: Is it permissible for a Muslim to curse his Muslim brother with destruction or lack of success, due to a dispute between them?
As for when this dispute is severe to the point of attacking his companion in his religion, his honor, or the like, there is no harm in cursing him with a harsh curse, as Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) did with the man who insulted him in the presence of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He cursed him, asking that Allah blind his sight, prolong his life, and expose him to trials—seeking refuge in Allah from that. As for when it is a minor matter, he should not curse him except to the extent of his injustice only.
