The ruling on delaying what is due to be performed before the prostration for forgetfulness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
O Shaykh! Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner: A man forgot the first tashahhud in the Zuhr prayer, so he performed the prostration for forgetfulness after the taslim. Is there any harm in that?
If one omits the first tashahhud, the place for the prostration is before the taslim, as the Sunnah has established.
However, if he delays it until after the taslim out of forgetfulness, there is no harm. If he does it intentionally, he commits a sin according to some scholars, but according to most scholars, he does not commit a sin; because whether it is before the taslim or after it is, according to most scholars, a recommended practice, not an obligation.

As for Ibn Taymiyyah, the Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him), he says: What is prescribed to be before the taslim must be before the taslim, and what is prescribed to be after the taslim must be after the taslim, so be careful about that! And according to the opinion of the Shaykh al-Islam, the imam must study the prostration for forgetfulness thoroughly, and know what is done before the taslim and what is done after the taslim.
