What is the ruling on one who leaves the first tashahhud out of forgetfulness and performs the prostration for forgetfulness after the taslim?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner : A man left the first tashahhud out of forgetfulness in the Zuhr prayer, so he performed the prostration for forgetfulness after the taslim?

The Shaykh : A man left what?

The questioner : The first tashahhud out of forgetfulness.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.

The questioner : And he completed the prayer, then performed the prostration for forgetfulness after the taslim.

The Shaykh : Yes, if one leaves the first tashahhud, the place for the prostration is before the taslim, as the Sunnah has it. But if he delays it until after the taslim out of forgetfulness, there is no harm. If he does it intentionally, he is sinful according to some scholars, and according to most scholars he is not sinful, because whether it is before the taslim or after it is, according to most scholars, a matter of recommendation, not obligation. As for Ibn Taymiyyah, the Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him), he says: what is reported to be before the taslim must be before the taslim, and what is reported to be after the taslim must be after the taslim. So be mindful of that. And according to the opinion of the Shaykh al-Islam, it is obligatory for the imam to study the prostration for forgetfulness thoroughly and know which is done before the taslim and which is done after the taslim.

The questioner : Your Eminence, the Shaykh

The Shaykh : Yes, just one question, because the time has ended.
