Ruling on taking some of the deceased's hair or nails during the washing of the body
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed regarding taking some of the deceased's hair or nails during the washing of the body. What is your opinion on this issue?
What I see is that it should be taken if there is dirt in it; because if there is dirt in the nails, removing this dirt is difficult, so the nails are cut and then thrown away or buried. As for the pubic hair, it is not taken; because it necessitates exposing the private parts, and there is no need for that. As for the armpit hair, it is taken because it usually has a bad smell. And what should be done is that the deceased be cleaned thoroughly, due to the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to the women who were washing his daughter: (Wash her three times, or five times, or seven times, or more than that if you see fit) , and due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the man who was gored by his camel at 'Arafah, he said: (Wash him with water and suds) because the suds provide additional cleaning.
The questioner: But regarding the armpit hair, is that painful for the deceased? The Shaykh: The deceased is dead and does not feel this, and it can be cut.But as I said: It is taken from them if there is harm in them, because leaving them at this length results in harm.
