The acts of the ninth day of Hajj
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
On the ninth day, the pilgrims depart from Mina to 'Arafah. If it is convenient for them, they stop at Namirah; if it is not convenient, there is no harm in continuing their journey to 'Arafah, where they pray the midday and afternoon prayers combined and shortened. The combination is a combination of advancing (jam' taqdim) in order to allow time for supplication and for people to disperse to their standing places. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) chose to combine the prayers by advancing on the Day of 'Arafah for this purpose;First: to lengthen the time of standing,And secondly: and to allow people to disperse to their standing places; because if they had dispersed before praying the afternoon prayer, they would not have gathered for the prayer. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the prayers by advancing. Then, is the place where the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) stood designated, or is all of 'Arafah a standing place?Listen to the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): (I stood here, and all of 'Arafah is a standing place) So if you stand in your place, you have performed the recommended practice, especially in our present time with the severe congestion and the much loss experienced by those who go to stand in the position of the Messenger (may Allah praise and bless him). Therefore, it is better to remain in one's place.
Then know that if you go to the position of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), you are at risk of being lost, and of hunger and thirst, and it will not be possible for you to stand in that position until the sun sets; because you must return to your camp before the sun sets, otherwise you will be lost among these cars, and you will miss the humility required of a person in such sacred sites. Therefore, it is better to stand in your place to ward off these harms or these risks.
On the Day of 'Arafah, people stand in 'Arafah -after the two prayers of midday and afternoon combined by advancing- until the sun sets, and it is not permissible for a person to depart from 'Arafah before the sun sets,And the evidence for that is: First: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood until the sun set and said: (Take from me your rituals) and this is a command to emulate him.
Second: If departing before sunset had been permissible, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would have been the first to do it; because that would be easier and more comfortable for the community, as they would depart during the day. And it was the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that whenever he was given a choice between two matters, he would choose the easier of them, as long as it was not a sin,And when we say: The easier option is to depart during the day, and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) refrained from it, so we know that it is a sin; because of his guidance to choose the easier option as long as it is not a sin.
Third: If we departed before sunset, that would be imitating the polytheists and contradicting the guidance of the Master of the Messengers (peace and blessings be upon him); because the polytheists depart from 'Arafah before the sun sets. When the sun is on the heads of the mountains like turbans on the heads of men, they depart.
