The Shaykh : He was an Imam among the Imams of the Muslims.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : He possessed knowledge, jurisprudence, and narration, to the extent that some biographers preferred him over the Imam Malik.

The questioner: Allah is the Greatest!

The Shaykh : However, they said: The Imam Malik was preserved by his companions, whereas al-Layth was neglected by his students.

The questioner: Allah is the Greatest!

The Shaykh : This is among his virtues, and it is very rare among the early scholars for one to be alert to the concealment of a defect in a chain by a narrator. So he went to Abu al-Zubayr and said to him: "Inform me." He said: "Did you hear all the hadiths that you narrated from Ibn al-Zubayr from him?" He said: "No." He said: "Then inform me of the hadiths that you heard from him." So he mentioned them to him. Therefore, what al-Layth narrates from him is only what Abu al-Zubayr explicitly informed him of.

The questioner : Yes, what Abu al-Zubayr explicitly informed him of.
