A question regarding the story of the two sons of Adam, in which one of them killed the other

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Allah related the words of the son of Adam who killed his brother, saying:
"O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?" And he became of the regretful.
[Al-Ma'idah: 31] On what basis is the regret that occurred from him?
It appears that he became one of those who regretted killing his brother, and it is permissible that it was for both reasons. But his being like this crow, it can be said: He did not regret it because it was not within his power. And it may be said: He regretted it because he was ignorant of this matter. The confirmed fact is that he regretted killing his brother; there is no doubt about this.

The questioner: Did he regret it because he killed his brother, or did he regret it because it was a sin?The Shaykh: Allah knows best. Did he regret it because it was a sin, or because he killed him and was troubled by it?
