Ruling on the traveler shortening the prayer behind a resident imam

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
I am coming from a long journey, and the time for the midday prayer arrived, so I combined it with the afternoon prayer. The imam had already prayed the afternoon prayer, so I prayed the first two units with him, then I concluded the prayer and completed the afternoon prayer with him. Is this valid?
From the midday prayer.

The questioner: I prayed the first two units, and I prayed the last two units.

The Shaykh: Meaning: I joined the imam in the midday prayer and prayed the first two units, then I concluded the prayer as if it were the midday prayer, then I joined him in the third and fourth units as if it were the afternoon prayer? The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: This is not permissible, and you must now repeat both prayers in full, four units each. Why? Because when a person is with the imam, he must follow the imam.As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his family said: (Whatever you catch up with, pray, and whatever you miss, complete it) And Ibn Abbas was asked: [Why does a man on a journey pray two units, while with the imam he prays four?So he said: That is the recommended practice] So tell the brother: He must now pray four units for the midday prayer and four units for the afternoon prayer.
