The Wisdom Behind the Descent of 'Isa (peace be upon him) in the End Times
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: Some Christians sometimes ask in their supplications about the purpose and wisdom of 'Isa's (peace be upon him) return or descent to earth before the Day of Resurrection. Sometimes the preachers answer with some established facts and some far-fetched ideas. What is the opinion of the esteemed scholars—may Allah reward you with good—regarding this matter, so that it becomes clear to the preachers? The Shaykh: I mean: the Christians ask: Why does 'Isa descend? The questioner: Yes, what is the wisdom behind his descent? Some of them answer with something established, and something far-fetched.
The Shaykh: What did they answer with? The questioner: Some of them answered: That it is to establish a proof against them for what they altered of the religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
The Shaykh: Against the Christians, you mean? The questioner: Yes, that is some of the answers, and much of it is also far-fetched; they bring things from their own minds without evidence?
As for it being to establish a proof against them, the proof is already established against them even if he does not descend. And if this were the reason, we would also say: Moses descends in order to establish a proof against the Jews, even though Moses has died, and 'Isa has not died.
But the wisdom, and Allah knows best, is: To manifest the virtue of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and to confirm his prophethood, since this prophet who descends will judge by the Shari'ah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), even if he breaks the cross, kills the pig, and accepts nothing but Islam. This is not a new Shari'ah; because the Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) narrated it as a confirmation of it, so it becomes part of the Shari'ah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
So it appears that the wisdom behind that is to manifest the honor of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and that the prophets must follow him, so Allah shows them that in this world before the Hereafter. And what indicates this is that in the intercession, the people come to Adam, then to Noah, then to Abraham, then to Moses, then to 'Isa. All of the first five—Adam, Noah, Abraham, and Moses, these four—each of them excuses themselves with a proof, whereas 'Isa does not excuse himself with a proof. And he only says: "Go to Muhammad, the servant for whom Allah has forgiven what came before of his sin and what came after." So the fact that Allah inspires the people to go to 'Isa, even though he will not intercede, and he did not mention a sin,The intended meaning is: To manifest the honor of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) over the previous prophets.
