What is the meaning of Allah’s saying: [Surah al-Zumar: 47] ?

Meaning: It became apparent to them of the punishment of Allah what had not been on their minds,As He said before that: [Surah al-Zumar: 48] The meaning is: that these disbelievers in the messengers did not think that this would happen, that what the messengers promised and threatened would come to pass, so what they had not expected became apparent to them. But does this benefit them? No, by Allah! It does not benefit them.
