Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (The believers are only those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and then did not doubt)
Then He, the Exalted, said: [Surah al-Hujurat: 15] :- (Innamā) is a particle of restriction that affirms the ruling for the mentioned party and denies it for all others,Meaning: meaning the believers are none other than these,And the intended meaning of the true believers: those whose faith is complete, those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger,They believed: they acknowledged with an acknowledgment that necessitates acceptance and submission; mere acknowledgment is not sufficient, but acceptance and submission are necessary,And the evidence that mere acknowledgment is not sufficient: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that his uncle Abu Talib is in the Fire, even though he was a believer in the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and affirmed his truth,He says in his famous Lamiriyyah:
We have certainly known that our son is not a liar with us, nor is he concerned with speaking falsehood
And he says regarding the religion of the Messenger:
And I have certainly known that the religion of Muhammad is the best of the religions of the people
But, may Allah protect us, he did not accept this religion, nor did he submit to it, and the last thing he said was that he was upon shirk (associating partners with Allah), upon the religion of 'Abd al-Muttalib.
So those who believed in Allah and His Messenger: They are those who acknowledged fully what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is worthy of, and what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is worthy of, and they accepted that and submitted to it.
[Al-Hujurat 49:15] : The word (thumma) here is in one of the best positions; (thumma) indicates sequence with a delay,Meaning: then they settled and remained firm in faith over a long period: (lam yarṭabū) : meaning: no doubt overtook them regarding faith in Allah and His Messenger.
Here we point out an issue that is frequently asked about in this time, even though its origin existed in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), which is: the whispers that Satan casts into the heart of a person; Satan sometimes casts whispers and doubts into the heart of a person regarding faith, the Qur'an, the Messenger, or the Lord (Mighty and Majestic); these are whispers that a person would wish his flesh were torn and his bones broken rather than speak of them. What is the position of a person regarding this? The position of a person regarding this: He should seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, stop, and turn away from it, not thinking about it at all. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that such whispers are the pure faith, meaning: the sincere faith. This was the pure faith because Satan does not come to a person who is already doubting to make him doubt in his religion, but rather to a person who is firm and settled to make him doubt in his religion and corrupt it for him. As for the believer whose faith has settled in his heart and whose heart has found tranquility in faith, it is he whom Satan comes to corrupt his religion. As for one who is not a believer, Satan does not come to him with such whispers because he has already given up on him.
And the important thing is that His saying:[Al-Hujurat 49:15] indicates that they remained firm in faith even if the period was long for them,If someone were to say: What is the path that necessitates for a person the firmness and stability of faith? We said: First: that he reflects on the creations of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and that these great creations were not the result of chance, nor did they come into being by themselves. And that he also reflects on the Shari'ah of Allah and its perfection, and reflects on the biography of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his miracles, and so on. Also, he should increase in the remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), for by the remembrance of Allah hearts find tranquility. And he should increase in acts of obedience and righteous deeds; for acts of obedience and righteous deeds increase in faith, as is the doctrine of the people of the Sunnah and the community (may Allah have mercy on them).
[Surah al-Hujurat: 15] :-This is also conjoined to His saying: meaning: they are those who, along with their faith in Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and their certainty and lack of doubt, desire to reform the servants of Allah. How? By jihad in the path of Allah. They fight the enemies of Allah so that they may return to the religion of Allah and be upright upon it, not for revenge, nor for victory for themselves, but so that they may enter into the religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
And jihad in the path of Allah: It is fighting so that the word of Allah is the supreme, not for revenge. Fighting for revenge is nothing but defense of the self or taking revenge only. But jihad in reality: It is that a person fights so that the word of Allah is the supreme. As for jihad for the victory of the self, or defense of the self only, it is not in the path of Allah. But there is no doubt that one who fights in defense of his self, if he is killed, he is a martyr, and if he kills his opponent, his opponent is in the Fire. As came in the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding one who wanted to take his wealth, he said: (Do not give it to him,He said: O Messenger of Allah! What do you think if he fights me?He said: Fight him,He said: What if he kills me?He said: then you are a martyr,He said: What do you think if you kill him? He said: Then he is in the Fire) .
Therefore: What is jihad in the path of Allah? Fighting so that the word of Allah is the supreme. This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) defined and distinguished with a clear distinction.
[Surah al-Hujurat: 15] :- Those are the truthful in their faith and lack of doubt,As for those who said from the Bedouins: We have believed, but they did not truly believe, but they submitted (Islam), so they are not truthful,For this reason, Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Hujurat: 14] .
Then He, the Exalted, said:
The believers are only the ones who have believed in Allah and His Messenger and then doubt not
إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَرْتَابُواWe have certainly known that our son is not a liar with us, nor is he concerned with speaking falsehood
And he says regarding the religion of the Messenger:
