Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “O you who believe, remember Allah with much remembrance”
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He said: [Al-Ahzab: 41] [Al-Baqarah 2:104] Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “When you hear Allah say, ‘O you who believe,’ then lend it your ear, for it is either a good thing you are commanded to do or an evil thing you are forbidden from doing.” And when Allah the Exalted addresses the believers with the description of faith, this is a means of encouraging them to comply with the command if a command is directed to them, and to abstain from the prohibition if a prohibition is directed to them. For when you address a person with a description that necessitates compliance, it means that you are encouraging him to comply. And when Allah addresses the believers with the description of faith, that is evidence that what they are addressed with is among the requirements of faith, and that opposing it is a deficiency in faith. And when Allah issues a ruling by way of a call, that is evidence of its importance and the care to be taken with it. [Al-Ahzab 33:41] In any case, remembrance, as mentioned previously, is done with the tongue, with the heart, and with the limbs. And His saying: is not restricted to one hundred, two hundred, one thousand, or two thousand; it is much remembrance. A sane person is able to remember Allah the Exalted constantly, while the heedless person is heedless of it.
