The permissibility of killing ants if they are harmful

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
ً

His Eminence the Shaykh: We have small ants in the house that are bothering us. What is your opinion regarding them?

I say: If ants or other creatures are harmful and the harm cannot be repelled except by killing them, then they should be killed. However, if they are not causing any harm—such as damaging the building, spoiling food, or disturbing the sleep of children or people—then they should be left alone. But if they cause harm and it cannot be repelled except by killing them, then it is permissible to do so. They may be killed with poison (such as Phylit) or something else.
