Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And that upon Him is the second creation)
Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Najm: 47] Upon whom? Upon Allah. In this is evidence that Allah made it obligatory upon Himself to resurrect the people; for if people were to live and die without being returned, this would be pure futility. We know now that people in this world differ in wealth and poverty, strength and weakness, intelligence and reason, and so on. If creation were only like this without a return, it would be entirely contrary to wisdom. But a return is necessary. And for this he said: (And that upon Him) and (upon) what does it signify? For example: If you say: "It is upon you to do such and such," it means: obligatory. So (upon) signifies obligation. Thus, Allah made it obligatory upon Himself to create the people again. There is no impediment to Allah imposing upon Himself whatever He wills. As Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-An'am: 54] Meaning: He made mercy obligatory upon Himself.
Likewise, here He said: [Surah al-Najm: 47] Meaning: upon Allah. Allah made it obligatory upon Himself to create the people a second creation for recompense, each according to his work. The second creation implies that there was a creation before it, which is the first creation, which is the beginning of the creation of people by Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
And in His saying: (The second) has a great benefit, which is the indication that the One capable of the first is capable of the second, and the second creation is easier than the first. As Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: [Surah al-Rum: 27] It is all easy for Him. But the ease differs in terms of the thing itself, not in terms of Allah's power. Allah's power does not differ. So the matter with Him is (Be, and it is), whether it is the highest thing or the lowest thing.
But as for the thing being created, which is easier? Re-creation is easier. But as for Allah's power, it is all the same.Because the matter does not go beyond saying: Be, and it is.
And by this we know that some of the exegetes (may Allah have mercy on them and forgive them) said regarding His saying: [Surah al-Rum: 27] Meaning: and it is easy for Him. And this is an error. How does Allah say about Himself: (And it is easier for Him) And we say: And it is easy?! But we say: Ease has two relations: a relation to the object acted upon, and a relation to the actor. As for the actor, they are the same.Because both of them are formed by a single word: Be, and it is.
And as for the object acted upon, it differs. And there is no doubt that the first is more severe than the second.
Therefore: The word: (the second) has a benefit, which is: the indication that the One capable of the first is capable of the second, a fortiori. And among what indicates this is His saying, the Exalted: [Surah al-Rum: 27] .
I ask Allah the Exalted to make our destination and your destination to Paradise, and to make the end of our affairs better than the beginning. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
Allah the Exalted said:
And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُخْرَىYour Lord has written upon Himself mercy
كَتَبَ رَبُّكُمْ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ الرَّحْمَةَLikewise, here He said:
And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُخْرَىAnd in His saying: (The second) has a great benefit, which is the indication that the One capable of the first is capable of the second, and the second creation is easier than the first. As Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is [even] easier for Him
وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَبْدأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ وَهُوَ أَهْوَنُ عَلَيْهِBut as for the thing being created, which is easier? Re-creation is easier. But as for Allah's power, it is all the same.Because the matter does not go beyond saying: Be, and it is.
