Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And that He is the One who enriches and the One who provides)]
We begin this session with what has become customary, which is the exegesis of whatever is facilitated, or of whatever Allah the Exalted has made easy for us to explain from the verses. We are at the end of Surat al-Najm, where we previously concluded with the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And that He is the One who enriches and the One who providesوَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَغْنَى وَأَقْنَى
[al-Najm: 48] meaning: that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is the One who expands provision for whom He wills and restricts it. He is the One who enriched whom He willed from His creation, and provided for them. It is said that its meaning is "to increase," because it is in contrast to "enriched,"And it was said: enriched with sufficiency, and provided with what exceeds sufficiency,Meaning: that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, expanded provision for the servants. Some of them He enriched from others, and some of them He provided for, meaning: He gave them a store, which is the excess over sufficiency. And as we have mentioned repeatedly, if a word can bear two meanings that do not contradict each other and there is no evidence preferring one over the other, then it is to be understood as bearing both; because that is broader in meaning.
So the One who enriches is Allah, and the One who provides is Allah, Mighty and Majestic,And these are not the idols which are: al-Lat and al-‘Uzza and Manat, rather, that belongs to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, alone.
