Machine translationRead the Arabic original
As for what one fasts from; because fasting is abstention, so from what does one abstain? One abstains from the things that have been established as breaking the fast. Among the things established as breaking the fast are: eating, drinking, and intercourse. These three are mentioned in the Noble Book,Allah the Exalted said:
So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]فَالْآنَ بَاشِرُوهُنَّ وَابْتَغُوا مَا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ
[al-Baqarah: 187] Intercourse is in His saying: (Now have intercourse with them) Eating is: (Eat) and drinking is: (and drink)
until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the sunsetحَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ أَتِمُّوا الصِّيَامَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ
[al-Baqarah: 187] These are three.
