Fatwa No. ( 15704 )
Q: My mother brought me the suhur meal, but sleep overtook me and I fell asleep. Then I woke up and started eating. While eating, I heard a very distant sound, and I did not know whether it was the adhan, the iqamah, or a speech. I continued eating and then drank water. At that point, the mosque next to us called the iqamah, so I stopped eating and drinking and removed what was in my mouth. What is the ruling?
A: You must make up this day on which you ate and drank, and you must perform the Fajr prayer; because you ate and drank during the day, and it was obligatory for you to ask and verify, but you did not do so. And Allah the Exalted says:[Al-Baqarah 2:187] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the sunset.
