[Reconciling the hadith: (Allah has a hundred mercies) and the hadith: (Indeed, Allah created a hundred mercies)
A hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari: (Allah has a hundred mercies) and the wording also appears in al-Bukhari: (That Allah created a hundred mercies) So it is confusing, O Shaykh, to describe mercy as created?!
Mercy is used for two things: Mercy is an attribute of Allah, so this is not created, and no one knows its essence except Allah, and it is not limited to a number. And there is another mercy that is created, and this is known through its effects, and it can be counted. And among that is the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to Paradise: (You are My mercy, with which I show mercy to whom I will) even though Paradise is not one of the attributes of Allah, so the intended meaning of these hundred mercies is that they are created mercies that Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, bestows upon creation. So the Mighty and Majestic cast a mercy in this world by which creatures show mercy to one another, to the extent that a beast lifts its hoof from its young for fear of harming it, and we have seen wonders of this! Even the ant, when it enters the water of its burrow, carries its young to a safe place; I have seen this with my own eyes. Even the predators and cats and others; a she-wolf, if she takes her young, cannot leave them unless she dies. Who taught her this? The One who cast the mercy.
