Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: “Have you not seen those who were forbidden from whispering”
We begin this session, as is customary, by explaining what Allah the Mighty and Majestic has made easy for us,And we had previously concluded with the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Have you not considered those who were forbidden from private conversation, then they return to that which they were forbiddenأَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ نُهُوا عَنِ النَّجْوَى ثُمَّ يَعُودُونَ لِمَا نُهُوا عَنْهُ
[Al-Mujadilah: 8] “Forbidden” means: Allah the Mighty and Majestic or the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade them “from whispering”, meaning: from conferring with one another in secret and speaking in a manner intended to humiliate the believers. When a believer passes by them and sees them whispering, he assumes they are plotting against him, so they were forbidden from doing so.
then they return to that which they were forbidden and converse among themselves about sin and aggression and disobedience to the Messengerثُمَّ يَعُودُونَ لِمَا نُهُوا عَنْهُ وَيَتَنَاجَوْنَ بِالْأِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَمَعْصِيَتِ الرَّسُولِ
[Al-Mujadilah: 8] You will find them conferring with one another,In what they sin, meaning: earning thereby punishment in the Hereafter,And transgression is: transgressing against the believers by causing them anxiety and distress, “and disobedience to the Messenger”, meaning: they advise one another to disobey the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
