The Reality of Zuhd and Engaging in Worldly Affairs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
We have heard from the verses what encourages zuhd in this world. If a person leaves commercial opportunities that are before him with this intention, will he be rewarded if he deliberately leaves them while seeing that they would earn him?
Zuhd is not leaving buying and selling, because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) commanded buying and selling. So Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
When the prayer has been completedفَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلاةُ
[Al-Jumu'ah: 10] meaning: the Friday prayer
disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah oftenفَانْتَشِرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَابْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيراً
[Al-Jumu'ah: 10] even though He said before that:
when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave tradeإِذَا نُودِيَ لِلصَّلاةِ مِنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَاسَعَوْا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَذَرُوا الْبَيْعَ
[Al-Jumu'ah: 9] So what do we seek from the bounty of Allah after the prayer is finished? Buying and selling, so there is nothing wrong with buying and selling.Zuhd: It is leaving what does not benefit in the Hereafter. And wara': Leaving what harms in the Hereafter. If a person buys and sells with the intention of seeking the bounty of Allah, with the intention of becoming self-sufficient with what Allah has given him and not asking people or begging from them, with the intention of spending on his children and his family, with the intention of giving charity from what Allah has given him, then this becomes zuhd. Do not think that zuhd means a person wears bad clothes and a rag, rides in a bad car, and leaves, for example, houses that suit his status. This zuhd, as Shaykh al-Islam or Ibn al-Qayyim said: leaving what does not benefit in the Hereafter.
So let him sell and buy with this good intention, to restrain himself from people, to provide for those he is responsible for, and to give charity.
