The ruling on the (tarboosh) that has a brim

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
[The ruling on the (tarboosh) that has a brim]
What is the ruling on the (tarboosh) that has an extra part? The Shaykh: The one with this brim? The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: By Allah, I dislike it for two reasons. The first reason is that it is a newly introduced custom, and I prefer that a Muslim not change his custom except to a better one that does not contradict the Shari'ah.

And the second cause: This brim affects the eye such that it weakens its ability to resist the rays of the sun. Leave the matter as it is for now, and it does no harm. I once stopped a young man who was wearing this (brim) at night after the 'Isha' prayer and said to him: What do you want with this cap? Why don't you wear (caps) like everyone else?He said: It protects from the sun.
We are now after the 'Isha' prayer; where is the sun? Look at this blind imitation.
So I dislike it for these two reasons.

And I say: We should be dignified in ourselves, strong in character, and not turn away from our customs except to something better than them, on the condition that it does not contradict the Shari'ah. As for us accepting everything from them, that is a mistake.
