[Commentary on the saying of Yahya ibn Kathir’s father: (Knowledge is not attained through bodily comfort)]

In Sahih Muslim, from Yahya ibn Kathir, who said: I heard my father say: Knowledge is not attained through bodily comfort.
What is the commentary, may Allah preserve you?
True, complete knowledge is not attained through bodily comfort; one must undergo hardship. For this reason it is said: (Give knowledge all of yourself and you will attain some of it; give it only part of yourself and you will miss all of it) .
So one must undergo hardship. But if you read the history of the great scholars, you will know that they endured tremendous hardship. They would stay up all night for the sake of a single issue, and yet they did not stay up under lights like these, but under candles that strained the eyes when reading by their light. However, they were striving because they knew that this is a struggle in the path of Allah.
