If a man travels with his first wife, is he required, after returning from the trip, to spend the nights with the second wife for the number of days he spent with the first wife during the trip?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The man is with the second or first wife and is absent from her. Does he make up the missed days for the one he travels with?

The Shaykh : If he is traveling between them, meaning once with this one and once with that one, there is no making up of days.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : But if he is constantly with one, it is necessary.

The questioner : Okay, what if the days differ, meaning one is ten days and the other is five?

The Shaykh : If he does not intend to favor one over the other, there is no making up of days.

The questioner : There is no necessity.

The questioner : Shaykh, there was a conversation with my brother Abu Abdullah, and we were there in Makkah regarding the matter of hastening to return to one's family. He said: "My family is with me." Frankly, I was surprised, and he repeated it twice, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Perhaps you did not understand him.

The questioner : How?

The Shaykh : You did not understand him.

The questioner : The Shaykh was not present, and I was surprised even after I did not speak in another place. He said, "My family is with me." Of course, we hope that this tape does not reach our sister Umm Abdullah in any way.
The student : No, no, I will send it, hehe.

The questioner : Frankly, I do not want you to send it to Umm Abd al-Rahman.
The student : Were both of them with him?

The questioner : No, just one.
The student : One, yes.

The questioner : I told him, my brother, there are matters concerning...

The Shaykh : Calm down, the problem is because he has one with him.

The questioner : We told him there are matters concerning the family, concerning his family, and not from this side. And he repeated it, O Shaykh. Then in another place, of course, perhaps he forgot, he said: "Meaning such and such, my family is with me." Do you see? Frankly, I was emotionally affected by this matter.

The Shaykh : But may Allah guide you. You had to see what his excuse was? Maybe he has an excuse. It is not enough that he repeated it, because in your view, he repeated the mistake.

The questioner : We listen to him.

The Shaykh : But you had to listen to him.

The questioner : The meaning of the speech was clear. Abu Abd al-Rahman, initially, we did not discuss that a single man returns to his family. So I said, "My family is with me" at that time, because it was understood.

The Shaykh : Do you see what the interpretation is? Do you accept the interpretation or reject it?

The questioner : O Shaykh, I reject it, because I told him at that time it concerns the other party, and also these matters are not the issue.

The Shaykh : Then it is rejected.

The questioner : It is rejected, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : So, what is your view, Abu Abdullah?

The questioner : By Allah, my Shaykh, because I say the topic of the speech was this, and the period was not long.

The Shaykh : He is telling you he said such and such.

The questioner : He actually said it, and then he said it means the other party. I told him the period was not long.

The Shaykh : Yes, it means you supported his words, meaning you supported your mistake.

The questioner : For you and for her.

Another questioner : Yes, it was not long.

The Shaykh : The matter was not long and short; this is not an excuse.

The questioner : Why do you say my family is with me? Yes, O Shaykh, since it was not long, why do you say my family is with me?

Another questioner : Your speech, your speech that it is singleness, that he wants to return to his family, he will remain without family.

Another questioner : ... There are no other matters besides this matter.

The Shaykh : If there were children, if there were offspring.

The questioner : This is what I said.

The Shaykh : There are daughters.

The questioner : And this is what I said.

Another questioner : Okay, my Shaykh, what is the reasoning for returning to his family? Meaning, he performs 'Umrah and comes, okay, or are there other matters of worship?

The Shaykh : It is sufficient to say, as Abu 'Abdullah said,
Travelling is a tortuous experience. It deprives a person of his sleep. his food and drink. When one of you has accomplished his purpose, he should hasten his return to his family. السفر قطعة من العذاب ، فإذا قضى أحدكم نهمته فليسارِعُ إلى أهله
Sahih Muslim 1927
or as he (peace be upon him) said.

The questioner : O Shaykh, regarding us, we will obtain, after a while, the fiqh and understanding from you of the hadith
there is no i'tikaf except in a congregational mosque. لا اعتكاف إلا في المساجد الثلاث
Sunan Abi Dawud 2473Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
, so that we may attain the worship of i'tikaf.

The Shaykh : This hadith, you must act upon it, do not say to him my family is with me.

The questioner : We discussed it, this, O Shaykh, we discussed it. We told him there is great worship, the tawaf.

The Shaykh : It was not necessary for you to say to me my family is with me.

The questioner : My family is with me, we said it, O Shaykh, regarding singleness.

The Shaykh : The thing that ruined your word is that.

The questioner : This, O Shaykh, was regarding singleness, that one remains single. I said my family is with me. Then when you spoke the second speech, we told him we obtain the worship of tawaf and i'tikaf in these days.

Another questioner : Our conversation was an occasion, and perhaps the matter of my return and the wrestling and the family and the homes. I asked for her family and these matters. So your topic was that I have my family with me. I told you, I am not from your side, from your side only, there is the other party as well.

Another questioner : It became from here and there, the speech branched out between this and that.

Another questioner : My uncle, the path you go.

Another questioner : ... He said that if a person wants to travel, he should be protected by two things surrounding his travel, generally with a wife, and with knowledge if it is specifically to the lands of the disbelievers.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Right away, right away.

Another questioner : Immediately, O Shaykh, because it is not easy. Now the matter is that the person does not remain single, his wife is with him, his family is with him. Another matter is his staying in the two Holy Mosques due to the hadiths you clarified, may Allah reward you with good, regarding i'tikaf and the virtue of tawaf in the Haram, and the days are few in both matters, such that he did not neglect the services of his family, whether from a second wife or from children or from works concerning him. So this matter, meaning, does it apply to him by hastening, or is there good in this staying as well? Immediately, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : This spot.

The questioner : This spot that follows.

Another questioner : Meaning, approximately, he combined matters, all of them in his study of his affair, of his travel. He is now at ease and comfortable, in i'tikaf, and worshipping, and his family is with him, such that he is maintaining his feeling of being a stranger and maintaining his family...

The Shaykh: Here?

The questioner : Yes, from here.

The Shaykh : This, my brother, is not a matter of disagreement, in my opinion.

The questioner : If it is not a matter of disagreement, there is no disagreement, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : You want to clarify the disagreement between you and your companion.

The questioner : Between me and my companion, O Shaykh, he understood from me that I leaned toward the family present with me and did not be fair to those I left.

Another questioner : The one with you, the first or the second, O Shaykh?

Another questioner : The one with me is not our topic, it is not important.

Another questioner : No, no, but just so we know, so we can tell him if it is the second, meaning most of them would be, if the first was with you, the brother Husayn did not speak.

Another questioner : This has in it, hehe.
