A man greeting his wife when he returns from travel
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 14101 )
Q 1: Is it a recommended practice (sunnah) for a man returning from a long journey to greet his wife
by shaking her hand, or not? Because in our region of Tihama, greeting one's wife is considered a disgrace. What is your esteemed opinion on this matter? Please clarify how one should greet his wife upon returning from a journey ?
A 1: It is prescribed (mashru') for the husband to treat his wife with kindness and to do for her what he would like her to do for him. There is no blame on him for shaking her hand, embracing her, and kissing her when he returns from a journey; in fact, there is reward in that if he rectifies his intention. And success is from Allah; and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
