The Shaykh : Therefore, when the Companions spread across the earth and conquered lands lengthwise and breadthwise, west and east, did they not call to Islam? Without a doubt, they were callers. They conquered lands more through da'wah than through the sword. Therefore, it is a grave error for some to say, regarding our Syrian lands for example, that "the religion of Muhammad is the religion of the sword," declaring that "the religion of Muhammad is the religion of the sword." This means that we narrow the scope of Islam when we say that a number of mutawatir is required for 'aqidah. Therefore, you will not find among those who adopt the view that 'aqidah is not established except by mutawatir reports any 'aqidah taken from the Sunnah, because they do not find in this Sunnah—especially since they are ignorant of it—a mutawatir report.
