What is the difference between the struggle of communists, secularists, and non-religious people, and the true, legitimate jihad of Muslims?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I will give you an easier example: a person performs the five prayers every day and night. Which is easier for the soul: doing that, or, as they say about us in Syria, having one’s blood in one’s hand and exposing oneself to being killed?

The questioner : The five prayers.

The Shaykh : The five prayers. So do you think that a person who does not maintain the prayers and does not give them their due weight can be capable of jihad, just because we want Palestine and want to return Palestine to its owners?

The questioner : Those are the ones who are actually doing jihad.

The Shaykh : That is not jihad, may Allah guide you. That is defending the land, like the disbelievers do. All the disbelievers defend their lands. I am speaking to you about jihad in the cause of Allah...

The questioner : O Shaykh, let us not move away from this point.

The Shaykh : Yes, may Allah guide you. That is fine.

The questioner : The point is, why are they the ones doing it? Why are they the ones doing it?

The Shaykh : They are doing it for the sake of the land, not for the sake of Islam. The one who says to them:
if you support Allah, He will support you
[Muhammad 47:7]
Do not forget, my brother, the distinction between the Muslim and the communist and his like. These people will live.

The questioner : So the land is not the dignity of the human being.

The Shaykh : Allow me, may Allah guide you. The communists, the non-religious, and so on, their life in this world is only for this world. They have no responsibilities, they have no refinement of the soul, they have no upbringing of offspring, and so on. And this takes up a great deal of the Muslims’ time, a great deal. Leave aside the acts of worship and the prayers and so on. Look, for example, the Christians, and these groups, they have a religion. Look at the Jews and their worship of Allah; they worship Allah on Saturday, and Allah knows the truth of that worship. And these others worship their Lord on Sunday, and the rest of the days are all for material life. Whereas the Muslims are living within the bounds of realizing the previous verse:
if you support Allah, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.
[Muhammad 47:7]
This requires that the Muslim establish for himself a way of life for which there is no parallel in the entire world, and applying this way of life takes a long, very long time.

The questioner : Is it not part of supporting Allah, or part of Allah’s support, that I strive to obtain my right?

The Shaykh : My brother, this question, may Allah guide you, is not asked. We tell you yes, but what benefit is there for you? And I told you an hour ago, the one who said:
if you support Allah, He will support you
[Muhammad 47:7]
, he also said:
And prepare against them whatever you are able
[Al-Anfal 8:60]
Did you forget what I said?

The questioner: No.

The Shaykh : Why are you asking me this question? But the difference is, we agreed with you on this preparation, but you forgot. Why? Because this agreement between us is not focused. Now, sound logic is what made you agree with us, but it has not yet become a firm belief in your mind. We agreed that there is a starting point and a beginning, which is faith, and then there is a second point, which is action. Is that not how we agreed?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Why are you asking me this now? Is it not from the religion and the Shari'ah that a person now works to reclaim his land? What will you think if I say that jihad is not from the religion? And I am the one who told you:
And prepare against them whatever you are able
[Al-Anfal 8:60]
.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : The discussion was about where to start. The discussion was about where to start.

The questioner : Mmm.

The Shaykh : We start with what? With understanding our faith, and then we try to apply our Islam within the limits of our ability. I think I asked you just now: Can we now manufacture weapons to fight the Jews? We cannot.
