Is it prescribed to sprinkle water on graves?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: And likewise, our master the Shaykh, sprinkling water, the same thing, on the grave, because many Muslims today, or?

The Shaykh: There is none, my brother, there is no sprinkling. Sprinkling is done when the grave is freshly dug so that the soil does not crumble; it is sprinkled to settle the soil. It is not a permanent practice!

The questioner: If the soil is loose, out of fear that the soil will crumble.

The Shaykh: I told you, my brother, the best speech is that which is brief and effective.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Water is not sprinkled permanently, and this is not from the Sunnah. The Sunnah, praise be to Allah, is clear and evident. None of the Salaf, the Companions, the Successors, or the mujtahid imams planted trees at graves or sprinkled water on graves.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.
