What is the ruling on using and selling perfumes and colognes that contain percentages of alcohol?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We return to the topic of alcohol. The perfume that contains alcohol, as if you know...
The student : The prayer, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Oh, you have caught up with the prayer... The types of perfumes differ in their alcohol content. Colognes, these are used by many people for washing and cleaning, and they have a pleasant scent, and the alcohol percentage in them is high, sixty or seventy percent, and so on. But other perfumes have a small percentage, and a very small percentage. So, as for the first type, the cologne that has a high percentage of alcohol, it is not permissible to sell it or buy it. Why? Because it turns into intoxicants for the addicts. Intoxicants are forbidden in it, at least openly, and its sale is not permitted, as is the case here, for example. Others substitute cologne for intoxicants; they put some things in it.

The questioner : They add a little water.

The Shaykh : That is it. Therefore, this type of cologne is not permissible to buy, sell, or trade in. As for other perfumes that may contain alcohol, it is usually impossible to turn them into intoxicants, as is the case with cologne. So, it is permissible to trade in these. This is what I wanted to remind you of. And have you known the answer to your question?

The questioner : May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : And I received the answer, in addition to what I asked.

The questioner : May Allah bless you, our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : That is because, at the time we are, as you saw, busy. But this opportunity is not to be missed, as long as you are eager to meet me, I am more eager to meet you than you are to meet me.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And may Allah bless you all.
