Is it permissible to use, sell, and buy colognes that contain alcohol?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: In anything else?

The questioner: Does that mean there is no harm in these colognes that are common these days, which they import?

The Shaykh: No, that is a different matter.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: There is a detailed ruling on this.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: It is undoubtedly, according to the previous statement.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: It is not ritually impure.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: But the alcohol in it is undoubtedly.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: So where did the alcohol come from? It came from pressing grapes and turning them into wine.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: So if we say that wine is forbidden, pure, and not ritually impure, that does not mean it is permissible for us to press it, sell it, buy it, or do similar things, as is known from the hadith.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: After this, we say: all the colognes in the markets contain alcohol, but the percentage varies.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: So if the percentage of alcohol in the cologne is high enough to make the cologne an intoxicating wine, then there is no difference at that point between buying wine and buying cologne, because it is wine. But if the percentage of alcohol in the cologne is small, such that no matter how much a drinker of wine imagines drinking from it, he is not affected and does not become intoxicated by it, then at that point it is permissible to sell and buy it, but it is not permissible to manufacture it.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Is it clear?

The questioner: Yes, yes, it is clear. May Allah reward you with good. So this is the answer.
