Section Five: Sitting with one's father and assisting him.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Section Five: The one who stays with his father in his plowing and farming, if he is a plowman or farmer, or with his father in his trade, or with his father in his workshop, or something similar to that. There is no doubt that this is good and is assistance in being dutiful to parents and maintaining family ties. So let him remain in this work, for it is good.
Section Six: The one who stays in his town, but devils from among mankind are assigned to him who accompany him and drag him along. A group of failed, lost young men is assigned to him, and he is with them while his father, who is obligated to raise him, is unaware, and due to a lack of concern for time, you find him wasting his time here and there, loitering in the markets, going out to the outskirts of the town, staying up all night, and leaving the prayers. There is no doubt that this is a failure, one who wastes his time, which is more precious than pearls, gold, and silver.
Therefore, we say on this occasion that it is obligatory for the guardians of the youth, it is obligatory for them to observe them during this vacation. If they are absent, they ask them, "Where did you go?" If they are accompanied by certain people, he asks about these people, "Who are they? Are they people of good or people of evil?" If he sees in his son something from which he smells the scent of corruption, he must try to intervene between him and this evil by every means. This is because a person is directly responsible for his family. Allah the Mighty and Majestic says:
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ
[At-Tahrim 66:6]
So you are responsible. If a sheep from your livestock were to get lost, you would go throughout the length and breadth of the land asking about it. So how about your son, who is a piece of your liver and your happiness in this world and the Hereafter, if he is righteous? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: A continuous charity, knowledge by which people derive benefit, pious son who prays for him. إذا مات الإنسان انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث صدقة جارية أو علم ينتفع به أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Riyad as-Salihin 949

So we ask Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to grant us and you the seizing of times in righteous deeds, and to help us and you in His remembrance, His gratitude, and the excellence of His worship. Indeed, He is capable of all things and worthy of response.
And to the questions prepared by our brother, Shaykh Hamud ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Sayyigh.
