The questioner : A questioner says: O honorable Shaykh, what are the books by which a student of knowledge progresses in tafsir, from the beginning of his affair until he reaches the peak? And what is your opinion of the tafsir *Zubdat al-Tafasir*? Is it suitable for a beginner or not, as well as others?

The Shaykh : Others are like a sea with no shore.

The questioner : He mentioned al-Jalalayn, and also al-Jalalayn?

The Shaykh : In any case, in my opinion, the easiest tafsir for a beginner student of knowledge is the tafsir of Shaykh Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa’di, because his words are clear, and his style is understood by the common person and the student of knowledge. It contains benefits in some verses that you do not find in others. So, in my opinion, it is the best book for a person to begin with in tafsir. As for *Tafsir al-Jalalayn*, yes, it is concise, but *Tafsir al-Jalalayn* requires a strong man, a scholar, because it contains symbols that only a strong student of knowledge can unravel. As for *Zubdat al-Tafasir*, I have not read it, and I do not know who its author is. Yes.
