The questioner : My mother, who lived in the countryside with her children, passed away, and I was not with her at the time of her death due to work circumstances and the distance of the location. When I learned of the news of her death, I went and found that they had buried her a day before my arrival. So I greeted her and prayed for her at the grave on the second day after her burial. Is that permissible?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible. It is permissible for a person to pray over a grave if he did not pray for the deceased before the burial, because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the woman who used to clean the mosque; when she died at night, they did not inform the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) of it. So he said:
"Show me her grave." So they showed him her grave, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for her. دلوني على قبرها، فدلوه على قبرها، فصلى عليها صلى الله عليه وسلم
He prayed over her grave. However, one should not pray over a grave during the prohibited times, because there is nothing that obligates this, meaning there is nothing that calls for praying over it during the prohibited times, since it is possible to pray over it when the prohibited time ends. Yes.

The questioner : The questioner Ibrahim from Riyadh says.
