What is the ruling on praying over a deceased person after they have been buried?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Among the questions from this questioner, he asks: What is the ruling on praying over a deceased person after they have been buried?

The Shaykh : Praying over a deceased person after they have been buried is permissible. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he prayed over a grave. This occurred in the story of a woman who used to clean the mosque, meaning she would tidy it up. She died at night, and the Companions did not inform the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about her so as not to disturb him. When morning came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of it and said:
Why did you not inform me? هلا كنتم ءاذنتموني
It seemed that they had belittled her status. Then he said, "Show me her grave." They showed him her grave, and he prayed over her grave. One should pray over a grave as the Sunnah has come, but on the condition that the person in the grave died after the one praying over them had reached the age of discernment. This means that you do not pray over a grave of someone who died before you were born. Therefore, I do not know of any scholar who said that one who visits the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the graves of his two companions should pray over them a funeral prayer. Praying over a grave is permissible, but on the condition that the one praying had reached the age of discernment at the time of the death of the person in the grave, because if one has reached the age of discernment, they are of the age of prayer. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
