Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: The Honorable Shaykh, please elaborate on the topic of the one who joins the prayer late if his imam forgets and prostrates before the closing salam or after it. Does the one who joins the prayer late prostrate in both cases after he completes his prayer?

The Shaykh : If the imam prostrates before the closing salam, the one who joins the prayer late must follow him, because it is not permissible for the one who joins the prayer late to separate from the imam unless the imam has said the closing salam. As for if he prostrates after the closing salam, he does not follow him. Rather, when his imam finishes the prayer with the salam, he stands up and makes up what he missed. When he has completed that, we look at the situation: if he had caught up with the imam during his forgetfulness, he prostrates after the salam. And if the imam’s forgetfulness occurred before he joined him, he does not have to prostrate. This is the ruling on the follower following the imam in the prostration for forgetfulness. Yes.
