If the imam adds a fifth rak'ah, when does he prostrate for forgetfulness, and what does the latecomer do?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
May the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you. The question is:

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The questioner : If the imam is praying the midday prayer and adds a fifth rak'ah, does he prostrate for the addition before the prayer or after the prayer? And do the followers who missed some of the rak'ahs prostrate with the imam, or do they make up what they missed and then prostrate?

The Shaykh : Yes, if a person adds a rak'ah to his prayer, such as praying the midday prayer five times, it is obligatory for him to prostrate for forgetfulness, based on the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the midday prayer with them five times. When he said the taslim, they said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! Did you add to the prayer?" He said: "What is that?" They said: "You prayed five times." So he turned his feet, faced the qiblah, and prostrated two prostrations.
.
Accordingly, we say: if you add a rak'ah to your prayer, such as a fifth in a four-rak'ah prayer, a fourth in a three-rak'ah prayer, or a third in a two-rak'ah prayer, you prostrate for forgetfulness after the taslim, as indicated by the hadith of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). As for the latecomer, he does not prostrate with the imam if the imam's prostration is after the taslim, because he cannot follow the imam, since the imam will say the taslim, and this latecomer will not say the taslim. The latecomer stands up, and if the forgetfulness for which the imam prostrated occurred before this latecomer joined him, there is no prostration required of him. However, if the forgetfulness for which the imam prostrated occurred after this latecomer joined him, then when the latecomer finishes his prayer, he prostrates two prostrations. Is that clear?

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : No, after he makes up what he missed. The latecomer, after he makes up what he missed. But you understood now that he does not prostrate unless the imam forgot after he joined him. For example, to make it clear, the cause of the prostration was before he joined him, such as the imam prostrating three times in the first rak'ah, and a person came and joined him in the third rak'ah. Here, the imam will prostrate after the taslim because it is an addition. Did this latecomer catch the addition, or did he join after it? I am asking you?
The student: After it.

The Shaykh : After it, because the addition was in the first rak'ah, and he joined him in the third. Accordingly, this latecomer does not prostrate; he does not prostrate. However, if the imam prostrated three times in the third rak'ah, in which this latecomer joined him, then when the latecomer completes his prayer, he prostrates two prostrations. Yes, the one after him, please.
