May Allah have bestowed His favor upon me, and I performed the obligatory Hajj. When I finished the tawaf and sa'y, I saw a friend of mine place his cloak on his head, so I placed my cloak on my head.

The questioner : May Allah have bestowed His favor upon me, and I performed the obligatory Hajj. When I finished the tawaf and sa'y, I saw a friend of mine place his cloak on his head, so I placed my cloak on my head. However, this Hajj that my friend performed was not for himself, but for a deceased person. Is there any sin upon me for that, O honorable Shaykh?

The Shaykh : What you did was covering your head. If that was during Hajj, and it was after you had stoned the Jamarat al-Aqabah on the Day of Sacrifice and shaved or shortened your hair, then there is no blame on you. Because when a pilgrim in Hajj stones the Jamarat al-Aqabah on the Day of Sacrifice and shaves or shortens his hair, he is released from all the prohibitions of ihram, except regarding women.
Likewise, if you were on the Day of Sacrifice, you stoned the Jamarat al-Aqabah, then descended to Makkah, performed tawaf and sa'y, and then placed your cloak on your head, there is no blame on you, because you have performed the first release (tahallul). However, if you were in 'Umrah, then there is nothing upon you, because you were ignorant and did not know. One who is ignorant of the prohibitions has nothing upon him.
However, if you did it intentionally with knowledge, the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) say that if a person commits a prohibited act that does not invalidate the ritual and necessitates a sheep or less, then in this state he has a choice between fasting for three days, or feeding six poor people, giving each poor person half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg), or slaughtering a sheep and distributing it among the poor.
