The questioner : I read a hadith from the noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and I want an explanation of it. It is narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3331 ?
The Shaykh : In this hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commands us to treat women with kindness, which means being gentle with them and considering their circumstances. He (peace and blessings be upon him) explains that they were created from a rib, referring to the creation of Hawwa (Eve), for she was created from the rib of Adam. Hawwa is the mother of women and also the mother of men, so she is the mother of the children of Adam. Thus, the woman was created from this rib. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) explains that the most crooked part of the rib is its top, and if you try to straighten it, meaning to correct it so that it becomes straight, you will break it. If you enjoy it, you will enjoy it while it is crooked. The woman is the same: if you enjoy her, you will enjoy her while she is crooked, deficient, and shortcoming. If you try to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking her means divorcing her. Therefore, a person should consider the woman's condition and treat her in accordance with her nature. The man is more rational than the woman and more wise in his actions. If he treats her with harshness, he will not live with her. If he treats her with gentleness and wisdom, he will live with her, even if that does not fully satisfy his desire for her.
Treat women nicely, for a women is created from a rib, and the most curved portion of the rib is its upper portion, so, if you should try to straighten it, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain crooked. So treat women nicely.
The Shaykh : In this hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commands us to treat women with kindness, which means being gentle with them and considering their circumstances.
