The questioner : Also, he asks about the noble verse: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan: [Yunus 10:24]?
The Shaykh : This verse is part of a noble verse mentioned by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in Surat Yunus in His saying:[Yunus 10:24-25] In this noble verse, Allah strikes a parable of this world and the adornments, splendor, and beauty within it, and other such things. He compares it to water We sent down from the sky to a barren, lifeless land, so the vegetation of the earth mixed with it. That is, this land grew from every beautiful pair and every variety, and the vegetation mixed with one another due to its abundance and growth. [Yunus 10:24] That is, the food of humans, the food of livestock, the fruits that humans eat, and the crops, and so on, until it became a delight for onlookers. When the earth had taken on its adornment and been decorated, and its fruits had become ripe and mature, and its people thought they were capable of it and that they would harvest it soon and with great ease, the command of Allah (the Exalted) came to it, either by night or by day, in the form of a violent wind, or snow, or lightning, or something else that destroyed and ruined it. That is, it became as if it had never existed in that beautiful form that pleased the onlooker; it became a harvested, lifeless field. Thus, worldly life becomes splendid for its owner, and he develops, becoming as if he will not die and as if he will remain in it, due to the arrogance he has attained in this world. Then, death overtakes him suddenly, and he is gone, and the wealth is scattered among the heirs, and everything that was becomes as if it never was.
And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) only struck this parable so that we would not be deceived by this world, so that we would guard against it and its deception, and so that we would not prefer it over the Hereafter, because it is perishable and vanishing, and there is no good in it except what serves as an aid in the obedience of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). For this reason, He followed that parable with His saying:[Yunus 10:25] That is, to Paradise, which is the abode of peace, safe from every deficiency and annoyance. In it is what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and what has not occurred to the heart of any human. In it is the eternal bliss, and whoever enters it enjoys and does not suffer, is healthy and does not fall ill, lives and does not die. They are in constant joy and eternal bliss. So look, O human being, and compare between the abode of peace, which is safe from every calamity, and this world, which, no matter how it develops, flourishes, and adorns itself, when it reaches its completion, it is destruction. And take heed, O my brother, of your remaining in this world, for the work of the Hereafter is less, easier, and more beneficial and fruitful than the work of this world.
And I will strike for you one example that is sufficient for you over other examples. You spend a dirham in the path of Allah, one dirham in the path of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) seeking His pleasure. This dirham is multiplied to ten times its like, to seven hundred times, to many multiples. So the dirham becomes ten, and the ten becomes seven hundred, to many multiples that none can count except Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And you have not done a hard task; the most of it is that you delivered this dirham to its rightful recipient seeking the Face of Allah. But look at this world: you go, you traverse the deserts, and you take risks in order to profit five dirhams in ten, or less than five dirhams in ten, with hardship and toil, and perhaps you do not even profit. So which of the two works is easier, and which of the two works is more beneficial, greater in result, more secure, and safer? I believe the answer is that the work of the Hereafter is easier, simpler, greater in result, and more reliable.
Likewise, you pray in your home and a reward is written for you, and you pray in the mosque and the reward is multiplied for you.Sahih Muslim 650a It is a small effort and a great profit. If people today were told that they are profiting one for five, a person would go to distant lands for this small profit, which may be guaranteed and may not be guaranteed. But he does not go to the mosque except one whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has guided, even though the profit is guaranteed and great.
And with this, the wisdom of the context of the saying of Allah (the Exalted) becomes clear:[Yunus 10:25] after mentioning the parable of worldly life and what it leads to. And reflect on the saying of Allah (the Exalted): [Yunus 10:25] But in guidance, He said: [Yunus 10:25] So not everyone who hears the call of Allah responds to the call, but only those whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has guided and led to a straight path respond to it. O Allah, we ask You to guide us and our Muslim brothers to Your straight path.
until, when the earth has taken on its adornment and is beautified
حتى إذا أخذت الأرض زخرفها وازينتThe Shaykh : This verse is part of a noble verse mentioned by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in Surat Yunus in His saying:
(24) The example of [this] worldly life is but like rain which We have sent down from the sky that the plants of the earth absorb - [those] from which men and livestock eat - until, when the earth has taken on its adornment and is beautified and its people suppose that they have capability over it, there comes to it Our command by night or by day, and We make it as a harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain in detail the signs for a people who give thought. (25) And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path
