The questioner : Is the interpretation of dreams and believing in that interpretation permissible or not?
The Shaykh : Before I answer this question, I would like people not to pay too much attention to dreams, because Satan depicts many strange, disturbing, and painful things to the sleeper in his sleep. Satan is the enemy of man, so he causes everything that disturbs a person. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:[Fatir 35:6] And He, the Exalted, said: [Al-Mujadila 58:10] So Satan shows the sleeper disturbing things in his own person, or in his family, or in his community. The remedy for this is for a person to spit to his left three times and say: "I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of Satan and from the evil of what I saw," and not to tell anyone about it. If he is in his bed and wants to continue sleeping, let him turn onto his other side, and then this dream will not harm him in any way. He should not trouble himself seeking someone to interpret it for him; it ends at this limit to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) guided. As for if he sees something that pleases him, if he sees something that pleases him, let him be glad with good and interpret it according to what comes to his mind and heart. It is hoped that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, will make reality correspond to what he saw in his dream and interpreted in his speech. Therefore, a person should not let himself be carried away by dreams, for if he does so, Satan will gain power over him. From this is that some people see their dead relatives, who died long ago or recently, in a disturbing and painful state, and they become distressed. This is also from Satan, so let him spit to his left three times and say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of Satan and from the evil of what I saw," and not to inform anyone. Or sometimes he sees his father or his mother saying: "O my son, give charity for me, perform Hajj for me, perform 'Umrah for me." This also has no validity whatsoever and should not be paid attention to, because a person sometimes constantly thinks about his dead father or mother, and with much thinking, Satan imagines in the form of the mother or the father and says: "Do such and such, do such and such." And the rulings of the Shari'ah are never established by visions. Yes, if a person sees a vision and there is evidence of its truth, then at that time it is acted upon because of the evidence. Yes.
