Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Allah the Exalted said in His noble Book:
It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne
[Al-Hadid 57:4]
, he says: Are these days from the days of this world or from the days of the Hereafter? I hope for your benefit in this matter?

The Shaykh : Allah the Exalted says:
Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne
[Al-A'raf 7:54]
, and Allah the Exalted made these days general. And Allah the Exalted said in the noble Qur'an:
Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you might understand.
[Az-Zukhruf 43:3]
, meaning We made it in the language of the Arabs so that you may understand and comprehend its meaning. And He the Exalted said:
(193) The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down (194) Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners - (195) In a clear Arabic language.
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:193-195]
, and He the Mighty and Majestic said:
And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them
[Ibrahim 14:4]
. So if Allah the Exalted mentions something in His Book without a specific legal meaning to which it refers, it is obligatory to interpret it according to what the Arabic language requires.
The days here are general. He said: He said:
Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.
[Al-A'raf 7:54]
. So these days are interpreted as the customary days known to us, which are the days we count: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. These are the six days in which Allah the Exalted created the heavens and the earth. Allah the Exalted detailed this in Surat Fussilat:
(9) Say, "Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth in two days and attribute to Him equals? That is the Lord of the worlds." (10) And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures'] sustenance in four days without distinction - for [the information] of those who ask. (11) Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly." (12) And He completed them as seven heavens within two days and inspired in each heaven its command
[Fussilat 41:9-12]
. Allah the Exalted detailed these days in this surah with a clear and distinct detail, so these days are interpreted as the customary days that people know in this world.
As for the days of the Hereafter, Allah the Exalted said that the measure of the Day of Resurrection is fifty thousand years.
