The questioner : We return to his last question. He asks: What is the ruling in the Shari'ah regarding a man who sells his goods while being indifferent to them to the extent that if any small amount of money is offered to him, he accepts it and does not care about it, and this is not for the sake of assistance, but rather he wants to get rid of those goods by any means? What is the legal ruling for both the seller and the buyer? Is there any sin upon them in this? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : Yes. There is nothing wrong with this in the Shari'ah, because a person may sell his goods at their price or their usual value, and he may sell them for less, and he may sell them for more, if the buyer is satisfied with that, except if this seller is a spendthrift who does not know how to manage his affairs, in which case it is not permissible to buy from him, because the transactions of a spendthrift are not valid.

The questioner : Very well.

The Shaykh : Until his guardian, who has been appointed over him by the Shari'ah or by the legal ruler, permits it.
