Is it true that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not cast a shadow when he walked? We hope for your guidance on this.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The listener from Yemen asks: Is it true that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)...

The Shaykh : O Allah, send blessings and peace upon him.

The questioner : ...did not cast a shadow when he walked? We hope for your guidance on this?

The Shaykh : This is not true. In fact, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), like other human beings, had a shadow and needed what humans need, such as food, drink, clothing, warmth, and coolness. It is established in the authentic hadith of al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a Syrian cloak during the expedition to Tabuk. He also used to pour water over his head in the summer while fasting from thirst to cool down. He would also become hungry and thirsty, peace and blessings be upon him, and he would drink and become full. He needed sleep and would sleep, he would become ill, urinate, and defecate. All the human conditions that befall human beings are established for him, peace and blessings be upon him.

The questioner : O Allah, send blessings and peace upon him.

The Shaykh : Allah the Exalted mentioned this in His saying:
Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed قُل إِنَّما أَنا بَشَرٌ مِثلُكُم يوحى إِلَيَّ
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
And We sent not before you [as messengers] except men to whom We revealed وَما أَرسَلنا مِن قَبلِكَ إِلّا رِجالًا نوحي إِلَيهِم
[Yusuf 12:109]
and He described them as men, so they have what men have and they are obligated to what men are obligated to. As for the prophetic characteristics with which Allah distinguished the prophets, our Prophet Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), has the most complete and perfect of them. Yes, indeed.
