The questioner : Also, from the questions of the female listener, she asks: Is a Muslim woman’s visit to her disbelieving relatives considered loyalty to those who oppose Allah and His Messenger? And is the father considered a non-mahram to whom one must not reveal one’s private parts?
The Shaykh : Maintaining family ties is not considered loyalty; rather, loyalty is one thing and maintaining family ties is another. For this reason, Allah the Exalted combined maintaining family ties with the prohibition of taking [disbelievers] as allies in a single surah. He said in Surat al-Mumtahanah:[Al-Mumtahanah 60:1] And He said in the same surah: [Al-Mumtahanah 60:8] So, maintaining family ties is a matter separate from taking allies. Accordingly, it is obligatory for a person to maintain ties with his relatives even if they are disbelievers, but without loyalty, support, or assistance in their disbelief.
Likewise, it is permissible to invite them to one’s home, for example. However, one should strive to present Islam to them, advise them, and guide them, so that perhaps Allah may guide them through one’s efforts. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
