The Danger of Showing Loyalty to Disbelievers
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! How is it known that an action taken by a person constitutes showing loyalty to disbelievers? And if that is known, is a ruling issued definitively, or is the matter held in abeyance and the motive behind that action investigated? May Allah reward you with good!
Showing loyalty in reality is: Supporting and aiding them, such that you support the disbelievers and aid them against the Muslims. If you aid and support them against disbelievers who are more severe than them, that is better; because these enemies who want to harm the Muslims are more wicked than those. This means: You have repelled the greater of two harms by the lesser of them, provided you do not fear treachery from those you supported against the enemy.
As for supporting them against Muslims, this is a great danger, and this is what is feared to fall under the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Ma'idah: 51] .
As for dealing with them in buying and selling, and their entering into our covenant, this is permissible. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to buy and sell from the Jews. He bought food for his family, and he died while his armor was pledged with them. He used to accept their gifts, and Khuzaa'ah entered into his covenant when he made a treaty with Quraysh at the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, and they were disbelievers; but they were sincere in their advice to the Muslims.
This issue is among the most delicate and dangerous matters, especially among the youth; because some of the youth think that any connection with disbelievers is showing loyalty, and the matter is not so. Showing loyalty has many meanings; but the thing that is dangerous and may take one out of Islam is supporting and aiding them against the Muslims.
