The Ruling on the Loyalty of Disbelievers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the loyalty that is prohibited by the Shari'ah?

Answer:
Loving the disbelievers and assisting them in their falsehood, and taking them as friends and close associates, and the like of that, are among the major sins and among the means of disbelief in Allah. Indeed, supporting them against the Muslims and aiding them against the Muslims is this al-tawalli (turning to them), and it is one of the types of apostasy from Islam. For Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.
[Al-Ma'idah: 51], and He the Exalted said:
You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindredلَا تَجِدُ قَوْمًا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ يُوَادُّونَ مَنْ حَادَّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَوْ كَانُوا آبَاءَهُمْ أَوْ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ أَوْ إِخْوَانَهُمْ أَوْ عَشِيرَتَهُمْ
[Al-Mujadila 58:22]
the verse [Al-Mujadilah: 22]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O you who have believed, take not those who have taken your religion in ridicule and amusement among the ones who were given the Scripture before you nor the disbelievers as allies. And fear Allah, if you should [truly] be believers.
[Al-Ma'idah: 57]. And success is from Allah.
