The questioner : What is the validity of this, O honorable Shaykh? If a person sleeps and has deceased relatives, then sees in a dream what sleepers see, that some of their deceased relatives, such as their parents, come to them at night to talk with them or sleep with them for a short period, what is the validity of these dreams? May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : These dreams may be true, or they may be from the talk of the soul. A person may talk to themselves about their deceased ones, as if addressing or speaking to them, and then see that in sleep. This is common; it is frequent for a person to see in their sleep what they were thinking about while awake. The dream may also be true, for a person may see a deceased person in a dream and speak with them. Among such cases is what happened to Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shamas (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was martyred at al-Yamamah. He was wearing a suit of armor, and a man from the soldiers passed by him, took his armor, and placed it in his saddlebag under a clay pot. A clay pot is something like a cauldron, but it is made of clay or stone. In any case, he placed the armor under this clay pot, and there was a horse neighing nearby. A man from Thabit ibn Qays’s companions saw him in a dream and informed him of the news, saying, “A man passed by me, took the armor, and placed it under a clay pot on the side of the camp, with a horse neighing nearby.” When morning came, he went to the place and found the matter as Thabit ibn Qays had said.
There are cases mentioned to us in which the souls of the living and the dead meet, and the dead speak about something that is true. Yes. However, if the deceased speaks to a person about something that is not permissible in the Shari'ah, or about something that is impossible, or about matters of the unseen future, such as saying, “Such and such will happen, such and such will happen,” then this is of no value, and one should not rely on it or accept it. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you. This is a listener who used the initials F H A for her name. She asks and says, O honorable Shaykh.
