I want to go to Morocco to obtain a license in hadith from Shaykh al-Ghamari. Do you advise me to do so?

The questioner : Yes, I intend, if Allah wills, to go to Morocco on the basis of obtaining a license in hadith from Shaykh al-Ghamari. Do you advise me to do so?

The Shaykh : No, I do not advise you to do so, for two reasons. Do you hear me?

The questioner : Yes, I am with you.

The Shaykh : Where have you been?

The questioner : I am with you on the phone.

The Shaykh : You are with me on the phone, but I ask you and you do not answer!

The questioner : I hear you, I hear you well.

The Shaykh : My brother, you hear me, but I ask you and you do not answer. I tell you, what is the benefit of you hearing me when I do not hear you? I tell you: Do you hear me?

The questioner : Yes, now I hear you well, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And why do you not answer immediately?

The questioner : Because, O Shaykh, I am speaking to you from the State of Kuwait.

The Shaykh : Subhan Allah! Is there a difference between the State of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, or elsewhere? The voice reaches at the speed of lightning. We are speaking today with people from Kuwait and from other places. The important thing is that I tell you: I do not advise you to go, for two reasons. Did you hear?

The questioner : Yes, yes, yes, I heard.

The Shaykh : The first is that the man is not from the people of the Sunnah. He is a follower of a method and is against the people of the Sunnah. Did you hear?

The questioner : Yes, exactly.

The Shaykh : And the second matter is that this license is formal and has no value at all. We have a man named Hasan al-Suqaf who obtained a license from him, but he is against the religion. So what is the benefit of these licenses?! Therefore, you should study hadith if someone who preceded you in this study is stronger than you, or otherwise study by yourself. And this is my advice to you and to every Muslim.

The questioner : All right, O Shaykh, is the chain of narration not considered a virtue?

The Shaykh : May Allah forgive you. This is what I advised you about.
