The Shaykh’s discussion with the students regarding those who deny the attributes. And an example of some of those who came before who engaged in denial.

The Shaykh : Because, unfortunately, he is not a follower of the Salaf.

The questioner : Glory be to Allah, right now I have a hadith in front of me:
It is thrown into the Fire, and it says: Is there any more? Until the Lord - (Exalted and Majestic is He) - places His foot in it, and it says: Enough, enough. يلقى في النار فتقول : هل مِن مزيد ؟ حتى يضع الرَّبُّ - جل وعلا - قدمَه فيها فتقول : قط قط
Sahih Ibn Hibban 4:143
He interprets the word "foot" here, saying that this report is among the reports that were used to represent proximity. That is, on the Day of Resurrection, people from the nations ... who disobeyed Allah will be thrown into the Fire, and it will keep asking for more until the Lord - (Exalted and Majestic is He) - places a portion of the disbelievers ... in the Fire, so it becomes full and says, "Enough, enough, that is enough for me." This is because the Arabs use the word "foot" in their language to mean a place. Allah - (Exalted and Majestic is He) - said:
a [firm] precedence of honor with their Lord لَهُمْ قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ
[Yunus 10:2]
He means a place of truth, not that Allah - (Exalted and Majestic is He) - places His foot in the Fire. Glory to our Lord, and He is Exalted above such things and their like.

The Shaykh : Glory be to Allah, he is the opposite of his teacher Ibn Khuzaymah regarding the attributes.

The questioner: Glory be to Allah!

The Shaykh : A denier of the attributes.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Look at this hadith that he wrote,
I saw the Prophet placing his thumb on his ear and his index finger on his eye. رأيت النبي يضعه إبهامه على أذنه وأصبعه الدعاء على عينه
Sahih Ibn Hibban 4:140
number two hundred and sixty-five.

The questioner : Yes, my Shaykh.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.

The questioner : My Shaykh, we and the brothers stopped at this, and since I did not know that he was an interpreter who denies the attributes, we thought well of him. But now, the denial of attributes is apparent.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Yes, without any instrument.

The Shaykh : It is clear from the hadith that Allah - (Mighty and Majestic) - affirms for Himself an eye and an ear, but as He said:
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing. لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
He is the first, he is completely the opposite ... .

The questioner : Yes, I read it. Abu Hatim said: He - (peace and blessings be upon him) - meant by placing his finger on his ear and his eye to inform the people that Allah - (Exalted and Majestic is He) - does not hear with an ear that has a concha and a twist, nor does He see with an eye that has eyelashes, a pupil, and whiteness. Glory to our Lord, and He is Exalted above being likened to His creation in any of things. Rather, He hears and sees without any instrument, however He wills.

The Shaykh : Without any instrument.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Well, what about the one who says it is with an instrument?

The questioner : So that it can be said without any instrument.

The Shaykh : Without any instrument. And who said this? What did he say at the beginning of the speech that he denied?

The questioner : He does not hear with an ear that has a concha and a twist.

The Shaykh : Who said that He has an instrument and a concha? What is this? Allah is the Greatest.

The questioner : These are the birth pangs, meaning it was not necessary to enter into them.
The student : Only regarding the attributes, he is a denier, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh: How.
The student : Only regarding the attributes ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, and he has a biography, but it is not clear why they expelled him from his country and accused him of heresy, and it is a long story. Glory be to Allah, infallibility is not for anyone. Knowledge and virtue, and what Allah wills, and preservation, but there is deviation. There is no god but Allah, I say.

The questioner : Yes, my Shaykh.

The Shaykh : As if he deals with this matter.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And I do not know if I spoke to him or not. Perhaps you can advise him and repeat it to him, and that the world does not delude him. And so with your son-in-law.

The questioner : Yes, by Allah, Shaykh ... Do you understand? You have nothing to worry about. Two hours ago, last night, I spoke with him.
The student : But before the question, there is something I want to tell you. By Allah, I love you for the sake of Allah. I always wished that I would meet you. Praise be to Allah who gathered us in this world. I ask Him - (the Exalted) - to gather us in the shade of His Throne.

The Shaykh : Welcome.
