The Shaykh’s discussion on the imams reading from the mushafs during the night prayer.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I add to this, meaning the fact that the practice of the imams of the mosques in the early centuries was not to read from the mushafs during the night prayer, that I consider this reading from the mushafs to be an innovation in matters. This ruling is supported by observing the limit set by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) for the Muslims as a general text, though it is directly intended for the Ummah, and more specifically for the imams of the mosques, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Keep this Qur'an in practice and sing with it. By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it is more likely to slip from the hearts of men than camels from their ropes. تعاهدوا هذا القرآن وتغنوا به ، فوالذي نفس محمد بيده ؛ إنه أشدُّ تفلُّتًا من صدور الرجال من الإبل من عقلها
. If this phenomenon, which has begun to spread now, is justified and permitted for the imams of the mosques, it nullifies this hadith:
Review this Qur'an تعاهدوا هذا القرآن
and so on. There is no doubt that any innovation that leads to contradiction does so not only in the general life that existed in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and after him in the mosques, but also in striking this hadith in the chest
Keep this Qur'an in practice and sing with it. تعاهدوا هذا القرآن وتغنوا به
. There is no doubt that this phenomenon, in that case, is a misguided innovation by the consensus of the scholars of the Muslims, even those who speak of a good innovation; because these people say that a condition for a good innovation is that it not contradict a Sunnah. Here it contradicts both a practical Sunnah and a verbal Sunnah. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Welcome, how are you?
The student: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

The Shaykh : May you be well.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : If Allah wills.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
